Immortals? No, lets talk C'tan.

So my father passed away last Friday and I've more or less secluded myself away while dealing with funeral arrangements and the like. I was able to secure the funeral at Arlington National Cemetery as he was a Major in the Marine Corps who flew Marine One for two presidents during his service.

However, this is a Warhams 40k blog so I'll do my best to discuss the reworkings of the old Star Gods in the new Necron Codex.

They got some stat reductions, putting them at S7 T7 WS5. BS5 for some reason. I4, so a c'tan is generally not going before Marines. I find the low initiative rather odd as they're Star Gods.

Powers are generally over costed for what they do and as each power can only be taken once per army, taking three more or less results in roughly a waste of 500 points.

The only worthwhile combos are:
Thunderbolt + Swarm.
Writhing + Pyreshard.
Lord of Fire + Grand Illusion.

If you want multiple C'tan I would recommend taking the last two of that list first before worrying about the thunderbolt and swarm.

Swarm is almost useless as you will rarely have a C'tan in cover but at least its a 3+ instead of a 4+ invulnerable.

Thunderbolt is a lascannon which normally would be good but you can only take one per army. Crypteks can get roughly the same thing for cheaper and they are far more versatile.

Writhing worldscape slows the game down but could lead to some amusing results if you are playing dawn of war. Vehicles get destroyed if they roll a 1 to go on and fast skimmers will die on a one if they turbo-boost. Could also kill the unit inside if they happen to be carrying anything.

Pyreshard gives you eight strength four shots may kill a single marine but then your crappy monstrous creature will get mowed down as he is probably out of assault range. If this ability was cheaper, it would be amazing. It isn't though so its kinda mediocre at best.

Lord of Fire is again kinda worthless, but its at least amusing to see a weapon explode. Until it is FAQ'd, twin-linked weapons which roll a 1 still explode.

Grand Illusion would be cool if Necrons didn't have a solar pulse; but they do so I'm not all too excited about it.

Sadly, since these abilities cost points, it is fairly easy to spend around 800 points on Monstrous Creatures which will die to pretty much any massed fire as well as can't do anything but CC an enemy.

I should also note that you must take two abilities, so the cheapest, as well as the most useless C'tan is 205 points.

Basically, C'tan still suck and thankfully I wasn't dumb enough to ever drop whatever ridiculous amount of money on a single model, let alone three.

Words which won't make your crappy models any better:

Opuscule:
A small or minor work.
A literary or musical work of small size.

Antiquated: Very old; aged. Too old to be fashionable, suitable, or useful; outmoded.
