On the supposed "cheese" of taking Henchman

Some of you may know that I am a fiend for Imperial guard and the mass amounts of shooting attacks they can put out in any given turn while being "protected" in their little vehicles. Instead of discussing the Defenders of Mankind and His battle tanks, or in my case the Worshipers of the Dark Gods, I am going to review what I see as an almost more cost effective means to field our little plastic dudes while retaining the feel of the Imperial Guard Codex.

Ever since the re-release of the Grey Knights, people have been complaining about how overpowered they are compared to a normal MEQ they are. In reality, stormbolters and power weapons with the potential of being strength five does not a broken codex make as a Grey Knight in power armour will die just as readily as a Ultramarine in power armor. Maybe even more quickly due to people fearing the dreaded force weapon.

The real power of the Grey Knight Codex lies behind Coteaz and his group of motley henchman.

I normally eschew all other henchman for the lowly warrior acolyte. At four points a body and the ability to take storm bolters as well as melta guns they have a bit more versatility than the other troop choices in the codex while allowing for you to field more models than if you were taking MEQs in razorbacks.

My normal loadout for a henchman retinue is as follows:
10 Warrior Acolytes
5 Stormbolters
3 Melta Guns
Chimera w/ Heavy Flamer

This squad allows for as much shooting as a normal 5 man GK tactical squad with the added bonus of melta guns and two extra bodies to slap wounds on. Due to their BS 3, the five shooting out of the top hatch roughly equates to, if not exceeds, the shooting potential of two marines shooting out the top hatch of a rhino.

Sure they don't get psycannons but that is why you take an Inquisitor in terminator armour. He can ride around in a chimera so no worries as to where he can go.
